40 miles, 573 feet elevation. On a paved, mostly flat trail with just a little street riding. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders (and advanced beginners who can do the mileage).
Join us for this great ride and discover two DC cycling gems: the Anacostia River Trail (ART) and the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. After starting at Hains Point, we’ll pass Audi Field and then cross the Anacostia River using the stunning Frederick Douglass Memorial bridge which has a separate, protected and very wide pedestrian/cycling lane. We then ride on the paved, nearly flat Anacostia River Trail (ART) that along beautiful wetlands and the Anacostia River. We’ll take a spin around Lake Artemesia, a lovely man-made lake, after passing College Park Airport, the oldest continually working airport in the world! Along the way, we’ll stop at Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville. Then we’ll make our way back to our starting point, crossing the river and riding by The Wharf.
This is a no- drop ride, with a leader and a sweep and no one will be left behind.
After completing your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with additional event details and start location. If you don't see it, check your junk mail folder.
There is limited space, so please register early. Although this ride is FREE for Members, you do need to register.
46 miles, elevation 1800 feet. For intermediate and advanced riders. Mostly low-traffic, country roads with rolling hills.
We're excited to offer this fantastic ride with gorgeous scenery in Clarke County, VA which is nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. We'll ride past working farms, old country estates and through historic towns, with the mountains in the distance. We even make a brief foray into West Virginia. Our ride starts at Burwell-Morgan Mill, which was built in the 1780's, and where we'll return to picnic after the ride. This ride is well worth the drive to get there!
As with all WWO rides, there will be a leader and a sweep, and no one will be left behind.
After you complete your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with additional event details and start location.
35 miles on flat roads and bike trail. For advanced beginners (who can ride the distance) and above. Suitable for all types of bikes.
One of our most popular rides! Kent Island is the largest island in the Chesapeake Bay and was the location of the first European settlement in Maryland. From its earliest inhabitants (Matapeake Indians) to its present-day status as the gateway to the Eastern Shore, Kent Island has played a vital role in the history of Maryland.
Join WWO for a stunning ride on Kent Island. We will travel on the paved bike path that traverses the island, detouring to see neighborhoods, many beautiful water views, a community fishing pier, and a lighthouse. There are multiple stops to admire the views. Moderate social pace, with a leader and a sweep, and no one will be left behind.
5 miles of easy/moderate hiking, a yoga class for all experience levels, great food and conversation.
Join us for our always fun Annual Anniversary Picnic and help us celebrate. We will begin with a scenic 2.5-mile hike to a hilltop retreat overlooking the valley and participate in a 20-minute yoga class (no prior experience necessary). We’ll hike back down the hill (2.5 miles) and return to a Board Member’s country home for a picnic where we’ll socialize with old and new friends. If you’ve never joined us before, this is a great opportunity to learn what WWO is all about. Barbecue and drinks will be provided, but we invite you to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. Come for all or part of the day!
After you complete your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with additional event details and location.
Please register early (there may be limited space for yoga). Although this event is FREE for everyone, you do need to register.
The Board of Directors is the governing body of WWO with the responsibility of overseeing all activities. WWO members are invited to join the meeting.
Board members meet quarterly to discuss policy and to focus on the mission, strategy and goals of WWO in an effort to better serve our members and trip participants. These quarterly-scheduled meetings are open to WWO members and we encourage members to participate! We invite you to come observe our meetings, particularly if you have always wanted to get more involved with WWO but didn't know where to start.
The meeting will be held on Zoom. You need to register to receive meeting instructions. Only registered WWO members can join the meeting, and we ask that you not share the meeting link with others.
