28.5 miles, 1835" elevation. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders. Gravel roads with both choppy hills and rolling roads.
This is a more challenging gravel ride for those with more experience or who have enjoyed some of our rides out of Bluemont. This ride will start in Purcellville and make a lollipop that reaches Lovettsville. We’ll stop for a coffee and a snack at Back Street Brews and then make our way back to Purcellville. This route has 1835 feet of climbing over 28.5 miles. There are some choppy hills at the start and then it is a bit more rolling in the second half. We’ll have 67% gravel and 33% road.
We’ll pass by farm fields and horse paddocks in open landscape, but also ride on shady and fun gravel roads. This is an intermediate ride, and you may feel like you have ridden 40 miles on the road when you're finished. You must be comfortable handling some uneven terrain and should have tires that are at least 35mm, preferably with some textured tread. Gravel bikes, road bikes with 35mm+ tires, hybrids with 35mm+ tires, or mountain bikes are all options.
We invite you to park at the W&O parking in Purcellville, where there are restrooms nearby. There are also coffee shops and food nearby, so we can always grab a bite afterwards.
There will be a leader and sweep, and no one will be left behind.
There is limited space, so please register early. This ride is free for Members but you must register.
