Bicycle Ride: Anacostia River Trail, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and the Frederick Douglass Bridge (12 Jul 2026)

30 miles on mostly flat paved trails. Good for intermediate and advanced riders, and advanced beginners ready for a longer ride.

This ride has it all! We will start in College Park and loop around the beautiful Lake Artemesia. Then we will ride along the Northwest Branch Trail until we join the Anacostia River Trail (ART). We'll stop at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and where the lotus and water lilies should be reaching full bloom. We'll continue on the trail and then ride past the Navy Yard to a rest stop (and lunch) at Potbelly. On our return, we’ll cross the river over the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (which has a separate and wide pedestrian/bicycle lane) and ride along Anacostia Park Drive before doubling back on our route. This ride always delights showing unique places in the city. The ride is suitable for all types of bikes. As with all our rides there will be a leader and sweep and no one will be left behind.

Bicycle Ride: Beginner Ride in Rock Creek Park (19 Jul 2026)

10 miles, 500" elevation on a paved road closed to cars with a few manageable hills. For Beginner Riders who want to ride with a group and begin to increase their riding distance. Leisurely pace (8 - 10 miles per hour).

Have you wanted to ride with a group but you weren't sure you were ready or that you could ride far enough? This is the ride for you! On this social-paced ride, you'll enjoy the beauty of Rock Creek Park as we ride an easy five miles out and five miles back on Beach Drive (approximately 1.25 hours of riding), which is now closed to traffic. Before we start, we'll go over guidance for riding in a group, basic bicycle maintenance and safety tips. (Note: this is not a "how to ride class.") At the mid-point of the ride, we'll take a break at Candy Cane City/Meadowbrook Stables. This is a no- drop ride, with a leader and a sweep and no one will be left behind. Suitable for all bicycle types.

Have you heard about WWO but don't know much about it? Are you curious to meet WWO's leaders? Would you like to learn more about how we plan events?

If so, please attend this meeting, particularly if you have always wanted to get more involved with WWO but didn't know where to start.
