5 miles that are suitable for all levels of hikers.
Rock Creek Park offers a surprisingly wild escape in the heart of Washington, D.C., with miles of wooded trails that wind along the creek, climb gentle ridges, and pass historic sites.

We'll hike a variety of trails from easy riverside strolls to more rugged, root‑laced paths that feel far removed from the city. Shaded by towering white oaks and tulip poplars, the trails provide peaceful views, abundant wildlife, and a refreshing sense of solitude—making the park one of the region’s most beloved urban hiking destinations.
Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for white-tailed deer or the bright flash of a Northern Cardinal. The trail is well-marked, though it can get quite muddy after a good rain. Because of the rolling hills and natural dirt paths, wearing sturdy sneakers or hiking boots is a great idea to keep you steady.
As with all WWO hikes, there will be a leader and a sweep, and no one will be left behind.
