6.5 miles, a Level 3 Moderate trail, suitable for intermediate and above hikers.

The lower section of the Seneca Greenway closely follows the creek through wooded floodplain and quiet stream valleys, offering a long, scenic, and largely natural-surface experience.

This hike involves shuttling of cars to/from parking area off Darnestown Rd (Rte 28) and Riley's Lock. More information to follow as we get closer to hike date.

Once the car shuttling is settled, we'll begin our hike from the Darnestown Road parking lot. We will have to cross Darnestown Road as we make our way south on the Greenway towards Riley's Lock. 

The trail follows Seneca Creek for much of the route, offering a peaceful, secluded atmosphere, along a mostly natural dirt path that can be muddy in spots. We will experience generally flat to gently rolling terrain with a few short climbs and at least one stream crossing. This is a shared-use trail, so we may encounter trail runners, mountain bikers, and horseback riders.

After the hike, please join me in collecting trash along Riley's Lock Road, the "Rustic Road" that WWO has adopted as part of the County's program to preserve historic and scenic roadways and keep them litter free.  

As with all WWO hikes, there will be a leader and a sweep, and no one will be left behind.
