3.3 miles, level 2 rating. Suitable for all level of hikers.  Scott's Run is part of the Potomac Gorge and is one of the rarest biological ecosystems in the mid-Atlantic.

I haven't been to Scott's Run in a couple of years and thought it would be a nice hike to do fairly early to beat the crowds and the heat. We'll utilize multiple trails with varying terrain that can be gentle and wind through the forest, to more challenging descents of rocky crags and bluffs. The main attraction is viewing Scott's Run creek as it spills over a small, magnificent waterfall before entering the Potomac River. Another highlight will be viewing the river from Stubblefield Falls Overlook. 

We'll also visit remnants of the Burling Cabin Site owned by Edward B. Burling, co-founder of the Covington & Burling law firm. He intentionally preserved its natural state, refusing telephone lines to avoid cutting trees. After his death in 1966, the property was sold to a developer who planned to build luxury homes, but neighbors strongly opposed it. A coalition of orchestrated protests and advocacy campaigns drew support to save it. Through their efforts we are able to enjoy today.

 As with all WWO hikes, there will be a leader and a sweep, and no one will be left behind.
