4 miles, Level 5 hike. Suitable for intermediate and above hikers. Rose River is a moderately challenging trail that offers a rewarding experience with a stunning 67-foot waterfall.
This is a beautiful trail in the Shenandoah Wilderness that meanders alongside the Rose River. This hidden gem offers a picturesque setting with cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and peaceful surroundings. The trail can be rocky at times and there may be stream crossings. Total elevation gain is about 900 feet. The last 1.3 miles is a leisurely walk on a fire road.
The falls were formed by the erosion of the Rose River, which runs through a series of cascades and pools before plunging over a 67-foot drop. The Flora is diverse and abundant, with a variety of trees such as tulip poplars, oaks, and maples. The forest floor is carpeted with ferns, mosses, and wildflowers, adding to the beauty of the landscape.
As with all WWO hikes, there will be a leader and a sweep, and no one will be left behind.
