This 7.0 mile trip is suitable for beginner backpackers looking for a challenge and above.
White Rock Cliff, with the spectacular Opa Overlook, is a loop hike in the Great North Mountain area. This hike has streams, great diversity in flora, and sublime solitude. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Shenandoah National Park from the Opa Overlook. This area was originally settled by Germans in the 1730s, with German and Scots-Irish migrants moving from the Pennsylvania area.
For our overnight backpacking adventure, the loop offers the perfect blend of challenge and reward. The trail's moderate elevation gain will get your heart pumping. Camping at the overlook allows us to fully immerse ourselves in the rugged beauty of the area. As night falls, we'll be treated to a sky full of stars, far from the lights of civilization. The combination of rich history, stunning natural beauty, and the peace that only comes from spending a night in the wild makes this an unforgettable backpacking trip.
