This 3-day, 2-night, 12.0 mile trip is suitable for intermediate backpackers and above.

Can't jet off to Scotland or Switzerland for those breathtaking high mountain meadows? Fear not! Right here in the Old Dominion, we have our own slice of paradise waiting to be explored. Every hiker in the mid-Atlantic should make it a point to experience Cole Mountain at least once. Picture-perfect 360° meadow views await you from the saddle, rivaling some of the best vistas on the east coast. Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant boasts not one, but two summit viewpoints – east and west – each offering their own spectacular panoramas.

Recognized by Congress in 1994 as the Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area, these trails are meticulously maintained by the North Boundary Appalachian Trail Club, ensuring a pristine hiking experience for all adventurers. So lace up your boots and get ready to discover the unparalleled beauty that awaits in our very own backyard.

All trip details including equipment list, meeting location, and driving directions will be provided by email the week before the trip. WWO has a limited amount of backpacking equipment to lend as a member benefit. Let the trip leader know if you need to borrow any equipment.
