This 17.0 mile trip has 2310' elevation gain and is suitable for advanced backpackers.
Ranked among the top 5 backpacking routes in the mid-Atlantic, the Spruce Knob/Seneca Creek circuit offers a spectacular blend of beautiful meadows, mountain vistas, cascading waterfalls, and unparalleled camping spots. Beginning at Spruce Knob, the highest peak in West Virginia, this hike includes a short 1/2-mile circuit at the summit, boasting panoramic views of the surrounding valley.
The optimal time to embark on this adventure is between July and September, when temperatures at these 5,000-foot altitudes resemble a pleasant spring climate. With its breathtaking scenery and excellent camping spots, Spruce Knob/Seneca Creek promises an unforgettable backpacking experience for outdoor enthusiasts.
All trip details including equipment list, meeting location, and driving directions will be provided by email the week before the trip. WWO has a limited amount of backpacking equipment to lend as a member benefit. Let the trip leader know if you need to borrow any equipment.
