This 8.0 mile trip has 2020' elevation gain and is suitable for intermediate and above backpackers.
Heading southbound on the Appalachian Trail (AT), this hike passes through several small hollows, unique rock formations, and two mountain streams. The first stream, Ashby Hollow, has a wooden footbridge as well as a stream side campsite. This section of the AT is also affectionately known as the Roller Coaster. The Rod Hollow Shelter is a popular camping spot with several flat tent pad sites.
All trip details including equipment list, meeting location, and driving directions will be provided by email the week before the trip. WWO has a limited amount of backpacking equipment to lend as a member benefit. Let the trip leader know if you need to borrow any equipment.
