This is a moderate urban hike mostly along dirt and rock trails. There’s a staircase at the start/finish, and expect stream crossings, and muddy conditions by the river. Also, be prepared for rock scrambles. One in particular at 1.3 miles is tricky and there’s a rope to assist you. There are additional rock scrambles alongside Dead Run.

Turkey Run Park preserves a vertical slice of the Potomac Gorge ecosystem. A unique combination of flora and fauna makes a home in the park’s riverbanks, flood terraces, upland forest, streams, and underground seeps. Trails traverse several of the distinct habitats that make up the Potomac Gorge ecosystem. The Potomac Heritage Trail also runs through the park.
