36 miles with 2000 feet elevation on mostly rolling hills with a few challenging climbs. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders.
Join us for a scenic 36 mile ride in Loudoun County followed by a potluck picnic at the nearby country home of one of our members. This route explores the rolling hills, farmlands and villages of the Catoctin Valley and incorporates five scenic miles on the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail. We’ll stop in the charming village of Waterford established in the 1700’s which was home to many Quakers who helped enslaved people escape to the North. The entire village and surrounding countryside is a National Historic Landmark District noted for its well-preserved 18th and 19th-century character. Our route will take us through several additional small Loudoun County communities before reaching the base of Short Hill Mountain. After the ride, we’ll make a short drive to the picnic location where we’ll meet up with riders from the W & OD Jaunt. This ride is for intermediate and advanced riders. We will have a leader and sweep, and no one will be left behind.
