Scenic C & O Towpath Bike Ride from White’s Ferry to Point of Rocks or Brunswick
Saturday, Jul 9, 2022
10:00am – 3:00pm
Choice of 28 or 39 miles, out and back, nearly flat on the wonderfully re-surfaced C&O canal towpath. Good for advanced beginners and above (as well as beginners who can ride more than 25 miles).
Join us for an easy-going, very moderately paced ride on finely crushed gravel along the delightfully tree-lined and sun dappled C & O Towpath from White’s Ferry to Point of Rocks or Brunswick. This beautiful ride hugging the Potomac River is a real treat. Last time we rode we saw an owl, a great blue heron and dozens of turtles lazing on the rocks. The towpath has been recently resurfaced (not paved) and is a joy to ride on any bike. All bike types are suitable.
For riders choosing the shorter distance, once we reach Point of Rocks, we’ll stop for ice cream at the Rock Point Creamery before returning. (This involves riding one mile along a busy road.) For those choosing the longer route, we’ll stop for lunch in Brunswick at Beans in the Belfry before turning around. (You can also bring your own lunch.) Heading back to White’s Ferry is a subtle downhill, enough to fly back home! As with all our rides, we will have a leader and sweep and no one will be dropped.
