The fast-growing sport of stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is a fun, easy way to go play on the water. It offers an amazing full body workout. It is almost like walking on water. We will paddle on Antietam Creek.

We will practice our new paddleboarding skills, review our strokes, and paddle on moving water down a short stretch of Antietam Creek.

This event is open to women who have completed Level 1 or have previous paddleboard experience.

RIVER KAYAKING

Beginner River KayakingNovice Program

Level: All. No previous experience necessary.

A great opportunity to learn about paddling whitewater/river kayaks on a mild and pretty section of the Potomac River or Antietam Creek, depending on water levels. In riffles and slow water you will learn about getting in and out of the boat and going forward, reverse, and sideways. No rolling. No experience needed.

July Intermediate River Kayaking

Level: Prior paddling experience required.

Designed for individuals who have completed the beginner class or have prior experience paddling a kayak. The intermediate lesson is on moving water (Class I-II). It provides the opportunity to practice paddling skills and learn river rescue techniques. We use whitewater style sit-on-top kayaks so you don't need to know how to roll. A major portion of class time is devoted to practice on whitewater.

Potomac River Sea Kayaking Trip

Level: Suitable for those with prior paddling experience and in-shape beginners.

Paddle along the Potomac, following the current down river from Brunswick, Maryland. (Paddling is required, but the scenery is pretty.) View islands, birds, and a scenic shoreline at this great paddling location.

Almost Full Moon Sea Kayaking Trip

Level: Suitable for those with prior paddling experience and in-shape beginners.

This is always a special evening: the magic of paddling while the sun goes down and the moon comes up in the marshes near Old Town Alexandria. Note that in order to keep track of boats in the dark, we use double kayaks for this outing.

All paddling events include a review of strokes, water safety, and boat handling. All equipment (boats, PFDs, paddles) is provided. We encourage you to e-mail or call if you have any questions about your ability to participate. All equipment and instruction will be provided, or bring your own boat and equipment for a discounted price.
